Our River Community Educational Mini-Grants

SP River PAL created these mini-grants for area classrooms to use when teaching river-related curricula.

Mini-grants are awarded in the late fall through the Sauk Prairie Community Education Center.

All area K-6 classrooms, in all area schools, may apply for a mini-grant.  The mini-grant is a cash grant, up to $175.

OBJECTIVE:

Offers classrooms an opportunity to enhance existing curriculum as it relates to the understanding and appreciation of the Wisconsin River.

GRANTS:

The grant is worth up to $175 and is provided by the Sauk Prairie River Project Association Limited (SP River PAL.).  Funds may be used for field trips, guest speakers, classroom materials, community presentation costs, service learning or independent study projects, or any other which fits in stated guidelines.

WHO CAN APPLY:

Available for K-7 classrooms within the Sauk Prairie School District

SELECTION:

Application Criteria:  Curriculum relevance and enhancement = 35 pts, Community-sharing component= 35 pts, Uniqueness of Project=15pts, Clarity of proposal = 10 pts, Completeness of Budget = 5 pts.

Topics can be anything from studying the influence of the Wisconsin River on local art, music, literature, local geology, environment, historic studies, safety issues, recreational uses of the River to the impact of the River on the Sauk Prairie Area economy, etc.  Be creative!
